They are very friendly and the food satisfied my craving. Also came in to get my granddaughter Onigiri... she just loves it.
Very friendly ambiance, every few minutes a familiar local would walk in and be warmly greeted with a note of remembrance. I felt at home. The seafood was fresh and delicious, with notes of sweetness and ocean saltiness. Rice was prepared perfectly to mix well with the fresh seafood. The udon broth was delightful and fragrant. We will return soon.
We stopped by Ocean Sushi Deli for lunch while visiting Monterey, and it was a pleasant experience overall. They have so many food and dish options --from fresh fish to fried dishes to sushi rolls to rice bowls. I ordered the Sushi and Sashimi Combo (#3), and I loved that I got to choose the type of fish for both. The fish was incredibly fresh, and the portion size was perfect -- not too little, not too much. We were fortunate to arrive at just the right time and snag a table before the lunch crowd. The food came out fairly quickly overall. My husband's dish arrived a good 10-15 minutes before the rest of ours. It would've been nice if the dishes came out together, but not a dealbreaker. They have self-serve water and hot tea. The service was warm and accommodating. The workers noticed we were traveling with a baby and immediately offered a high chair, along with a dish and spoon for him. He ended up wanting to nap, so he ended up in his stroller. They have a bathroom on the side(?) of the store. We didn't notice a parking lot, but there is street parking available. If you're looking for fresh sushi in Monterey with a friendly atmosphere, Ocean Sushi Deli is worth a stop!
Such an authentic Japanese restaurant with delicious food to eat in or take out! Our family of four was so happy to have found this gem while we were visiting Monterey! Vegan options, too!

Their katsudon is the best I have ever had in a long time and more importantly the best in this area by far. The ambiance is really chill you order food and then take a seat and they bring your food to you. Self serve water and tea.
Wanted to grab a snack but ended up ordering dinner. The menu was a bit overwhelming with plenty of options. Since the original plan was to get sushi, we got the Chirashizushi (sashimi over a bed of sushi rice), rainbow roll, ocean sushi roll, and California roll (for our son). I will start with the sushi melted in freshness! I knew at my first bite we were going to be satisfied with our meals. The sashimi dish was a flavorful combination, and the other rolls were delicious!! Our son loved the California roll as he ate all 8 rolls to himself. Must have been good. Another place we will frequent when visiting Monterey. Next time, I may try other dishes, but may be hard since we enjoyed the fresh sushi so much!
Great neighborhood place with plenty of Japanese choices.Hubby had the salmon bento and I had the chirashi. Both were fine but the hubby could have finished his dinner before I got mine, but he politely grazed and shared with me.
